I know I could come up with a great story about how I got the nickname of "Peaches", but I wouldn't feel comfortable about it. It was very uneventful. Like most guys who have this nickname, I got mine playing High School Football. No reason other than the coach that named me stated I reminded him of another person, the same as me, and hence the name. The other coaches tried to name me "muscles", but it didn't stick.
The picture of a High School football player (tackle, guard, fullback), weighing 225, 5'11", running the 100 yd dash (no short 40's like today) in 10.9, with a full uniform on. Not bad. We had to run fast because we ran the "Single Wing" formation. And in that day we played a full game, both offence and defence. No specialty teams. So we had to be in great shape to do 40 minutes of football. We won State Champs in 1954. Didn't get to play college ball due to bad knees and a stint in the NAVY. I did have a scholarship to Hardin Simmons University though.
So I have had the nickname for all these years. Hardly anyone knows my real name. And it's also is easy to remember. Especially since I've gotten older and have changed a little bit. Hah! Instead of )( I now look like ( ). Oh well!!
